Haiti update

A few weeks ago we received an offering for some missionaries in Haiti.  We were able to send them $200o from our church to help with what they are doing.  Here is the latest update for those who are interested:

Dear Friends:
Since the disaster, we have actively been involved in helping the people who
flooded out of Port Au Prince back to the provinces(countryside) from whence
they came. Our efforts have been fruitful not only with the Gospel (7 saved-
many coming to church) and tending many injured people. Gayle has a unique
story which she will share with you later.

With the money that has come in, we have been able to meet many-many needs.
(James 2:18) Most people returning to the countryside came just with the
clothes on their backs. We have been able to supply money to them to buy
food. We are now involved with the money helping to repair damaged homes
here and in Port. One Pastor came who had a church in Port and many of
congregation were coming to him for food. He had spent all his money buying
rice, beans, and flour mixing them together and cooking for the people. We
were able to provide funds to him. He refused staying here and immediately
returned to Port and his church to help his people. Another Pastor came
yesterday and he and his family have been sleeping outside in the yard, feeling
the house and church not safe to enter into. He had no money. We were able
to give him some to return to his family in Port.

A single mother came with her two small daughters. Her house was gone and
she had no money. We were able to help. Harrington Rigaud’s car was
parked next to a service station near his house and the station caught fire. He
got out of his house and saved the car…the paint was all blistered. The fire
weakened his tires and they had to be replaced. We were able to help. Since,
he has used his car to go various places buying food for us and his family.

So you see Dear Friends, the money is very important and we hope it continues
to come in. The orphanage is now housing 4 additional adults and 3 children.
More may come.

Finally reality is setting in as the people come to grips with their state and their
loss. Some of them are still in a semi state of shock. How best to help them
at this point. We have been praying for wisdom to help God’s People and those
that are not saved yet. We believe God has given us a plan and that is to enter
back into micro enterprise. We did this once very successfully. It allows the
people to have hope and help themselves. To begin this effort, we need
$ 10,000.00 U.S. AS A START. The Haitian Christians know full well how
to enter the peoples market and make a profit. It is hard work and sacrifice.
But, they are used to adversity and hardship. They continue to have hope
in their Lord. YOU AND YOUR CHURCH CAN HELP. Please come along
side this vision and be a part. This is a long haul program and the Haitian
Christians know they cannot expect anything from their government. IF 500
PEOPLE SENT $ 20.00, WE WOULD HAVE THE $ 10,000.00. Pls share
this need with your friends. Many of you have been generous already and God
has seen your love and sacrifice. You will be rewarded.

In the meantime, we continue to meet needs with the funds that are coming in
and pray they will continue. No amount is to small. We have received many
gifts of $ 10.00 and $ 20.00 dollars. The address is HOUSE OF BREAD,
P.O. BOX 733..CHILLICOTHE,MO..64601. Every gift is tax deducible.

Name That Space

We’re excited to announce Journey Church has just acquired a new space to be our “base” throughout the week. It’s the former Boost PT office in the Crossroads of the Northland shopping area, at the corner of Highways 152 and 291north of CiCi’s Pizza. The problem: We don’t know what to call it. That’s where you come in. Send your ideas for names for the new Journey Church “space” to Pastor Shawn at shawn@journeykc.com and we’ll pick the one that fits the best.

The address of the new space is 224 N. 291 Hwy Liberty, MO 64068

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”  Proverbs 23:7

Women are encouraged to participate in a study of Joyce Meyer’s “Battlefield of the Mind” to help us live above negative thinking and renew our minds with the Word of God. It’s an excellent book for anyone who ever has a negative thought (which is probably all of us and it’s not a girly book so men should read it, too!).

Sign up online by clicking here. The book and study guide are available for $10 after Sunday service.
